Museum closed during Rosh hashana

The Jewish new year this week

This week, we enter in to a new year in the Jewish calendar; the year 5785! The holiday celebrating this transition is called Rosh hashana, and is celebrated by Jews all over the world - including the Trondheim community.

During Rosh hashana the "shofar" is blown a 100 times to mark the entrance in to the new year. It is also custom to eat sweet things like pomegranade and honey, symbolizing a wish for a sweet new year.

The Jewish museum Trondheim will be closed the rest of the week, including on Sunday. We will open again on Tuesday the 8th of October.

We wish everyone a happy new year. In Hebrew one often says "Shana tova"!
